Sif's 10 Rules for 2010...

I've set myself the following 10 Rules to live by in 2010, in the hopes of improving my enjoyment of life (that is, so I can stop getting sick and ending up on anti-biotics and feeling tired and critical and cranky all the time...)...

  1. Be in bed by 10pm each night (unless out of the house on one of my rare evening social engagements).
  2. Eat breakfast before 10am each and EVERY morning and finish eating for the day by 7.30pm (so I can get to sleep without the interruptions of digesting!).
  3. Eat consciously and be true to my conscience (that is intentionally vague!).
  4. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
  5. Walk 10 000 steps every day (even if it means walking up and down the driveway to make sure I tick over the entire 10 000 each day - but hopefully I'll find more creative ways to use those steps).
  6. Spend no more than 1 hour per day on PC based internet (twittering and checking facebook on iphone permitted because that is naturally limited by download limits and battery!) - That's 7 hours per week, and those 7 hours are transferrable if not used.
  7. No procrastinating! I know what most needs to be done at any given moment, so I'm just going to DO IT!
  8. Celebrate all the Sabbaths by doing an appropriate activity with the kids for each one!
  9. Read AT LEAST one book of FICTION each month. This is NOT transferrable.
  10. Do one canvas artwork each month. It doesn't matter that I don't have any experience, I'm just going to have fun with it!
I'm hoping these things will help me be a more joyful, creative, and healthy me this year!

Love all your ideas/rules! Nice to have goals for 2010! I will try to incorporate this idea along with my NYRs!

Oh yeah, and one fiction book a month is a great goal. I used to read one a *week* but now with kids, 1 a month is about all I can manage - currently reading Stephen Kings new novel, is it called "The Dome"?

Good luck with your list - although obviously you know you can do it if it's what you want!

I am a rule breaker. If I had a list I'd break it, but I am definitely on a journey and getting there slowly step by step.

Jen, my problem is that I don't think I've finish a single book of fiction in the past five years! I realise that is shameful for a writer, but there it is. I may struggle with one book a month, but hope after the first couple of months I might actually enjoy reading again!

Nic, I think the cutting down on PC and doing 10 000 is totally directly related to one another. I find it far too easy to justify my time online as learning time or thinking time (I think on four channels at once so mindless surfing allows my head the space to nut out other stuff), but I could use walking time for the same thing!

Rach, I'm a rule breaker by inclination, but OTHER PEOPLE'S rule - if that makes sense. If I set the rule it becomes something of a stand for me to measure myself by. It's part of the personal integrity learning curve I've been on for the past 13 or so years... If you like to break rules, why not set out 10 rules of things you'd love not to do!
